PURPOSE:To automatically sort a workpiece, by deciding the quality of the workpiece by a sensor so as to operate a pick-up fixture and pick up the workpiece only when it is of good quality and throwing away the condemned workpiece into the waste of chips, in the case of successively machining parts of small article. CONSTITUTION:When parts of small article are continuously machined by an automatic lathe, a workpiece, being condemned at the first time when a new material is supplied, is cut off to be dropped into the waste of chips 4. When a workpiece is cut off from the second time, it is decided whether or not the workpiece 2 is of good quality by moving a sensor 1 mounted to a traverse tool 5 to a predetermined position so as to decide whether or not the sensor 1 comes in contact with the workpiece 2. The workpiece, when it is of good quality, is cut off to be picked up by a pick-up fixture 3 after it is moved to a position immediately below the workpiece 2. The workpiece, when it is condemned, is cut off to be left as it is and thrown away into the waste of the chips 4. When the condemned workpiece is successively generated, a machine tool is stopped. |
