PURPOSE:To provide a friction material which exhibits excellent frictional force and has excellent wear resistance, consisting of a fiber, a binder and fillers one of which is micaceous iron oxide. CONSTITUTION:A friction material consists of a fiber (e.g. asbestos, steel fiber or phenol fiber), a binder (e.g. phenolic resin or rubber), micaceous iron oxide and other fillers (e.g. graphite or MoS2). By incorporating micaceous iron oxide as one of the fillers, a material exhibiting excellent frictional force and having excellent wear resistance can be obtd. Pref. micaceous iron oxide is used in a quantity of 2-60vol%. The friction material is suitable for use as a material for automotive brake, etc. |
