PURPOSE:To obtain the titled paper-coating latex excellent in ink transfer, by emulsion-polymerizing a total amount of an aromatic vinyl monomer, etc., with a portion of a conjugated diolefin monomer, etc., in the first stage, and emulsion- polymerizing the remaining portions of the monomers in the second stage. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer is produced by emulsion-polymerizing (A) 20- 50wt% conjugated diolefin with (B) 15-50wt% aromatic vinyl monomer, (C) 0- 25wt% vinyl cyanide monomer, (D) 5-40wt% unsaturated carboxylic acid alkyl ester monomer, and (E) 0.5-10wt% ethylenically unsaturated monomer. More precisely, a mixture of the entire portions of monomers B and C, a portion of monomer A and a portion of monomer E, said mixture accounting for 55-95% of the total monomers, is emulsion-polymerized, and the remaining portion (5- 45% of the total monomers) of the monomers is emulsion-polymerized. It is possible to obtain a paper-coating copolymer latex which can improve ink transfer, water resistance, printing gloss, etc., in good balance. |
