The invention relates to an intensive mains scouring unit for grains, preferably wheat and rye. The aim is to develop a machine which achieves a high, controllable working effect with minimum use of material and energy and in a simple manner requiring little servicing and maintenance. This is made possible according to the invention in that grain distributing and grain accelerating elements, water atomising elements, damming, processing and compression elements are arranged on a rotor. Enclosing this at a distance, a water-tight working casing, which can be opened when required, radially delimits the processing chamber, in which an intensive swirling of mains water and a curtain of grain takes place in the upper region and an automatic damming of material arises in the lower region, leading to further mechanical distribution and working-in of the mains water into the grain mixture. The working effect can be adjusted with respect to wetting-out or bran stripping by the metered water introduction, the adjustable damming effect, and the use of different rotating or stationary working elements connected to the casing.
