Flash tubes normally have sealed-in electrodes, at least one of which comprises an electrode body coated with an activator. Said activator is volatile at the melting point of the bulb material. In order to be able to make such gas discharge lamps smaller, it is proposed to weld the electrode body (3) onto the end face of the connecting wire (5) by laser welding. This reduces the heat transfer between connecting wire (5) and electrode body (3), and the electrode body (3) can be brought closer to the glass seal (8).
