In a process for removing one or more metal layers (Ti/Pd/Au) covering the surface of a light transmission glass fibre (F, Fi/Fa), the glass fibre (F, Fi/Fa) is immersed into a metal melt (Sn), namely into a molten metal (Sn) or into a molten metal alloy, as solvent for the metal layers (Ti/Pd/Au), the temperature of the metal melt (Sn) being below the softening point of the glass of the glass fibre (F, Fi/Fa). <IMAGE>
