Drive device for machines utilising water power, with at least two cylinders, the piston rods of which each carrying a piston are coupled in opposite directions outside the cylinders and their bottom end is connected each by way of a pressure pipeline to a header tank on a higher level and their upper end to a downpipe fed from the header tank, a machine driven by the flowing water being arranged in the downpipe and the coupling device being connected to an intermittently functioning drive operating by means of a piston from approximately the point when the top dead centre is reached.
