Mitre saw with a base plate for putting on a strip to be provided with a mitre-cut surface as well as for holding four upright bars which are arranged in pairs at a distance from one another and on which rollers are mounted in such a way as to be rotatable and also displaceable along the bars. A saw blade is guided between the rollers. Located on the base plate is a stop for laying the strip to be machined against, and in addition a clamping element can be advanced in the direction of the stop along the top side of the base plate in order to clamp the strip in place, this clamping element having a rib-like projection on its side facing the stop, which projection is profiled in such a way that, when it is pressed into the strip, it presses the strip against the top side of the base plate.
