The energy which people use in the form of heat during the winter is intended to be supplied to them in a more objective manner than in the past so that unnecessary overheating of the room air and of the room walls is obviated. Heat is needed most urgently when at rest (sitting or lying). The associated objects (seats, chairs, sofas etc.) should therefore also be heated. The temperature range for these furniture items can be set individually or jointly. However, this should not lead to people who are at rest being subjected to an excessive temperature gradient. A chair temperature of 30 DEG C is completely adequate, and may even be too much for some people. A major saving in energy can be achieved overall as a result of the low power consumption of such heaters in seating furniture. It would also be possible to heat such furniture using hot water or hot air, but this would be difficult because of supply problems. It would be extremely complicated to convert the furniture.
