A message relating to a deviation of the actual load from the ideal load is in each case sent to each of the group control mechanisms from the central control mechanism (CP) in order to reject from the outset a thereby determined percentage of line seizures in the connection groups concerned if the load-bearing limit is exceeded in the direction of overload. This adjustment responds relatively quickly in order to effectively pre-empt load jumps in a full-load situation and to prevent overloads of the central control mechanism (CP). To ensure that this quickly responding adjustment does not result in load rejections in the partial-load range also purely on the basis of a temporary overload offering, this adjustment is effective in the full load and overload range only.
