A small apparatus, which can be fitted under a water outlet, for water treatment having a housing (15) which contains the water-treating reagents (16, 17) through which water flows, which can be connected to the water outlet by way of a fastening element arranged on its upper side, and which exhibits, on the lower side, a discharge (20) for the water which has been treated. At the discharge (20), a safety valve is provided which liberates a greater cross-section (23) of the discharge when a limit pressure has been exceeded. This safety valve is in the form of a stopper (22) which is arranged in the lower side of the housing (15), which can spring out due to the water pressure, and which has a radially projecting retaining collar (25) which bears on a shoulder (24) of the housing (15) and undergoes deformation when the limit pressure has been exceeded. <IMAGE>
