Adapter for a multichannel analyser

With standard multichannel analysers, time resolutions, i.e. minimal channel indexing times, of 1 mu s can be achieved, e.g. in measuring fluorescence decay curves by the photon counting method. An adapter according to the invention reduces said time resolution to 50 ns by first transferring the photon pulses to an intermediate store (flipflop or counter) for the duration of the channel indexing time and then transferring them to a rapid RAM having, for example, 1024 memory cells (channels). When all the memory cells of the RAM are full, the multichannel analyser is started and the contents of the RAM are transferred to it at lower frequency. The circuitry of the adapter is of very simple construction because the entire time sequence control is undertaken by a single binary counter.
