PURPOSE:To generate stable discharge making laser beam output variable within extensive range by a method wherein ring type electrodes are arranged outside a discharge tube which is impressed with AC voltage to generate silent discharge exciting laser medium gas within the discharge tube. CONSTITUTION:When laser medium gas 2 is flown in a discharge tube 1 and two pairs of ring type electrodes 10A, 10B, 10C and 10D are arranged outside the discharge tube 1 to impress these electrodes with AC voltage by a power supply 11, silent discharge 12 is generated in the discharge tube 1. The dielectric such as glass tube etc. comprising the discharge tube 1 having effect of balancing the silent discharge 12 can vary the discharge current within extensive range. The laser medium gas 2 may be excited by the silent discharge 12 oscillating laser beams between a total reflector 7 and a partial reflector 8 to output laser beams 9 outside. |
