PURPOSE:To exhibit functions as light emitting and light receiving elements to the utmost by opposing an optical element provided with a light emitting part on the middle and a light receiving part around it, to the juction face of an optical fiber, and positioning the interval so as to balance a light emission juction efficiency with a light receiving junction efficiency. CONSTITUTION:A monolithic type optical element 1 is provided with a round light emitting part 11 and a circular light receiving part 12 around the part 11. An optical fiber 2 composed of a core 21 and a clad 22 is arranged opposite to the element 1, and both optical axes are aligned. Light emitted from the part 11 and the light quantity received on the fiber 2 is measured by changing the interval (d) to obtain the light emission junction efficiencies. On the other hand, light is emitted from the fiber 2 and the light quantity received on the part 12 is measured by changing the interval (d) to obtain light receiving junction efficiencies. The interval is positioned in the condition of balancing both junction efficiencies. As a result, the functions as the light emitting and receiving elements are exhibited to the utmost. |
