PURPOSE:To facilitate processing and to improve accuracy by combining a rod having plural external grooves in which optical fibers are set in a direction parallel to the axial direction with a pipe contacting with the outside of the rod to form a ferrule. CONSTITUTION:A columnar rod 5 is made of metal, glass, ceramics or the like with high hardness, and plural grooves 51 are cut around the rod 5 in a direction parallel to the axial direction so that the outsides of optical fiber cores 41 coincide with the outside of the rod 5 when the cores 41 are set in the grooves 51. After setting and fixing the cores 41 in the grooves 51, the rod 5 is inserted and fixed in a pipe 6 whose inside diameter corresponds to the outside diameter of the rod 5, and the end of the rod 5 is polished. By this construction, the processing is facilitated, and the accuracy can be improved. |
