The invention relates to an anti-lowering safety device for a lifting arm of a jack. The device is characterised in that there is provided, on the upper surface of the lifting arm 1 of the horizontal-type jack, a hooking part which has the form of a hole or of a ring 6 in which there is engaged a hooking element linked to the chassis of the jack and having the form of a cable 5 or of a part in the form of [lacuna], in such a manner that, when the lifting arm has been lifted to the desired height, the hooking element retains the lifting arm of the jack in order to prevent its sudden lowering. <IMAGE>
