PRODUCTION OF POLYESTER MOLDING

PURPOSE:To obtain a molding having excellent mechanical properties without carrying out predrying, by molding a linear satd. polyester in the presence of a specified ionic copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A metal salt of an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid /alpha-olefin copolymer (e.g. an ionic copolymer contg. 1-30mol% of the alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid unit wherein at least 40mol% of carboxyl groups are present in the form of mono- to trivalent metal salts) is used. 0.5-20pts.wt. said ionic copolymer (e.g. a sodium salt of an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer having an MW of 4,000) is blended with 100pts.wt. linear satd. polyester composed of an arom. dicarboxylic acid and an aliph. or alicyclic diol (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate). The resulting resin compsn. has a water content of 0.02-0.3wt% and can be melt-molded as is.
