<p>The engine (1) is supplied with combustion gas through an oxygen enricher (7). The enricher has a compressor (8) which delivers atmospheric air to one of two regenerative nitrogen absorbers (11, 12). These are of the zeolite molecular sieve type. The oxygen enriched air flows to the engine carburettor (29) through a non-return valve (13, 14) and a pressure reducing valve (27). A proportion is drawn off through a further reducing valve (17) and passed through the other absorber to regenerate it. The scavenging flow is discharged to atmosphere (23). Three way valves (9, 10) between the compressor and the absorbers reverse the flow between the absorbers to give periodic reteneration. The plant can be made compact and mobile and avoids the need for bulky oxygen bottles.</p> |
