In an electromechanical artificial heart comprising a housing (1) and an electric motor drive for a blood pump whose pressure chambers (2, 3) are each provided with an inlet valve (5) and an outlet valve (6), the electric motor drive is composed of a plurality of direct current motors (8) which are synchronously connected to each other to form a joint rotating drive unit. The direct current motors (8) are located in the housing (1) between two bellows (4) forming the two pressure chambers (2 and 3). There is a transmission gear for the conversion of the rotational movement of the direct current motors (8) into the two translational movements in the region of the bellows (4). <IMAGE>
