PURPOSE:To improve the yield of L-glutamic acid, by cultivating a bacterium demanding oleic acid for growth but not biotin, capable of producing L-glutamic acid under specific culture conditions by aerated spinner culture. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium (e.g., Brevibacterium thiogenitalis D-248, FERM-BP- 433) demanding oleic acid for growth but not biotin is prepared. In subjecting it to aerated culture with ordinary air, the bacterium is inoculated into a nutrient medium having an excess amount of an oleic acid source to exceed an amount to make the accumulation amount of L-glutamic acid maximum. Cultivation is carried out with feeding a gas having a higher oxygen concentration than ordinary air to a medium, L-glutamic acid is formed and accumulated in the medium, and collected to give L-glutamic acid. |
