摘要 High-resolution optical length-measuring method using a coded absolute scale for carrying out the method, preferably for the purpose of absolute displacement measurement and positioning in general machine building and instrument manufacture, in particular under the conditions of automated production. The aim of the invention is to provide a method and device for absolute length measurement which permit a higher resolution in conjunction at the same time with lesser demands on the scale. This is achieved when a serially coded absolute scale on which a bar code is provided in the measuring direction between the scale marks is scanned in the measuring direction by an optoelectronic line sensor and this information is further processed by a logic circuit to yield the measurement result. This method is also used for angular measurement.
