PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a machine tool for simple maintainance and as well to enhance the durability thereof, by allowing the transmission of AE waves caused by tool damage, from the main shaft side to the main shaft head side to be effected by means of liquid filled between the main shaft and the main shaft head. CONSTITUTION:A main shaft 6 attached thereto with a tool 8 is rotatably fitted in a main shaft head 7 by means of a bearing 5, and a liquid charge chamber 9' in the lower section of the main shaft head 7 is always filled with oil 9 as AE wave transmission medium. The oil 9 is circulated through an oil feed pipe 10 and an oil discharge pipe 10'. AE waves which is generated due to tool damage, is propagated from the tool 8 through a main shaft 6, an oil film 9 and a main shaft 7, and finally reaches an AE transforming element 1, thereby the tool damage may be detected. |
