A transfer device for transferring templates from presses, workpiece pallets to machine tools and the like, having a carriage (4) which can be moved on two rails (2) which are parallel to one another. On one side of the carriage (4) wheels (18) provided with flanges are provided and on the other side smooth wheels (18b) are provided. If the carriage (4) is stopped by the stopping device with a stopper pin (26) on the side of the smooth wheels (18b) via a stopping controller (33), the said carriage (4) swivels slightly about the central axis of the stopper pin (26) due to the inertia effect. The flanges of the wheels (18a) come to rest against the side faces of the rail (2) under the frictional effect and keep the carriage (4) free from impacts. <IMAGE>
