The setting attachment for machine tools with a tool mounting positioning tools which are interchangeable in operation comprises a holder (1), provided with a positioning surface and intended for fastening to the tool mounting, and a distance-measuring device (7) which is held on the holder (1) and the measuring feeler (9) of which is movable transversely to the positioning surface in order to measure a length value proportional to the distance between a feeling surface (13) and the positioning surface of the holder (1). In addition to the positioning surface, a flat calibration surface (15) running transversely to the direction of movement of the feeling surface (13) of the measuring feeler (9) is provided on the holder (1). A calibration gauge (33) can be placed against the calibration surface (15). A predetermined position of the feeling surface (13) relative to the positioning surface of the holder (1) can be set by means of the calibration gauge (33). This distance is utilised to form a reference point when determining dimensional differences between the tools and for adjusting the machine tool relative to a reference point of the workpiece to be machined. <IMAGE>
