In order to produce a chain transporter which, saving as much energy as possible, permits movement of one or more conveying vehicles, and even of whole trains, and which has essentially the same components as chain transporters known hitherto, it is proposed according to the invention to arrange one or more additional chain drive wheels (8, 9) in the chain transporter (1), which chain drive wheels (8, 9) are each connected to an additional drive (10, 11). Connection of one or more additional drives results in an up to 10-fold increase in the performance of the actual drive, for example. This design makes it possible to use normal drives as additional drives, as well as the standard carriers of the chains. The additional drives are distributed along the entire length of the chain transporter in such a way that in each case part loads are taken up.
