A device for inserting sausages into a jar with a narrow aperture comprises an insertion slide (10) which presses a bunch of sausages (4) against a circulating pushing device (6) which is an endless stainless helical spring which can be driven by a motor. The jar (2) which is to be filled with sausages (4) stands on a platform (8) which holds the jar against the filling device (5). The inside diameter of the circulating pushing device (6) is smaller than that of the aperture (7) of the jar (2). At the same time as the sausages are being inserted into the jar, the latter is filled with the liquid with which it is to be filled by the circulating pushing device. This simultaneous introduction of sausages and liquid on the one hand increases the speed of production and on the other hand decreases the risk of damage to the sausages during insertion, as the liquid acts as a lubricant. <IMAGE>
