The invention relates to an appliance for cleaning a tear-off zone on flat combing machines, the gripper located in the tear-off zone, the top comb located in the tear-off zone and the two lower and upper tear-off rollers respectively located in the tear-off zone being arranged under a cowl, and there being arranged under the cowl a suction line, which is provided with suction orifices extending over the working width and which belongs to a suction device, and, on the suction line, a stripper for each of the upper tear-off rollers. The object on which it is based is to reduce production standdown, lower the outlay in terms of manual labour and deliver the fleece in a uniformly good quality. This object is achieved in that the suction orifice (17) located on the suction line (9) above the tear-off rollers (3, 4, 5, 6) is arranged centrally, and the distance (15) between the strippers (13, 14) arranged on the suction line (9) is greater than the distance (16) between the lower tear-off rollers (3, 4) - Figure 1 -. The invention achieves the technical effect that contamination in the region of the tear-off rollers and lap formations at the tear-off edges are avoided and a reliable fleece clamping is achieved. <IMAGE>
