PURPOSE:To reduce the puffing of a graphite electrode by keeping within the specified range of temps. for specified hours, and then increasing the temp. immediately without cooling in the manufacture of an artificial graphite electrode by using easily graphitizable coke as the starting material. CONSTITUTION:The artificial graphite electrode is manufactured by using easily graphitizable coke produced from coal-tar pitch as the starting material. At this time, the coke is kept at 1,400-1,700 deg.C for >=0.5hr. Then the temp. is increased directly without cooling to graphitize. The nitrogen which is the primary cause of the puffing is removed in this way, and the puffing can be reduced. |
