The cross bar (6) comprises two identical but inverted side gables (17) connected to each other by links. Each gable consists of bars (7,10,12,15) connected to each other by joints (19,22) and forming a parallelogram which can be collapsed. In the collapsed position, the angles between adjacent sides are large, so that the wheel chair can be collapsed in a vertical direction. The side gables are also connected to each other by at least one cross link comprising two crossing link arms (34,35) connecting the horizontal bars in the parallelogram in pairs. These arms are joined at their point of intersection (36). The cross links are so arranged that the side gables are brought nearer to one another during the collapsing process whereby the wheel chair is collapsed in a crossways direction. They are also connected to corresp. bars (10,12) by double joints (37,38). All five joints used are located on the same plane. |
