PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as an intermediate of 7-thiaprostaglandin compound, economically in an industrial scale, in high yield, by reacting a 2,3-epoxycyclopentanone compound with a mercaptan in the presence of a solid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula III is produced by reacting 2,3-epoxycyclopentanone compound of formula I [R<1> is tri(1-6C hydrocarbon-substituted) silyl, etc.] with the mercaptan of formula II (G is -CH2OR<2> or -COOR<3>; R<2> is H, 2-7C acyl, etc.; R<3> is H, 1-10C alkyl, etc.) in the presence of a solid catalyst (e.g. alumina), and if necessary, carrying out the hydrolysis, removal of the protecting group, acylation, alkylation, or protecting reaction when G is -CH2OR<2>, or hydrolysis or esterification when G is -COOR<3>. The amount of the solid catalyst is 0.1-20pts.wt., preferably 0.5-5pts.wt. per 1pt.wt. of the compound of formula I , and the reaction temperature is -20-+100 deg.C. |
