PURPOSE:To shorten a processing time without causing absence of a video signal by performing thinning-out processing in four vertical and horizontal directions simultaneously unitl a certain size and in two unopposited directions after the size is obtained. CONSTITUTION:To perform thinning-out processing of a quantized video signal by scanning 2 and quantizing 3 a pattern on screen 1, simultaneous thinning-out processing 4 is performed in four vertical and horizontal directions or two vertical or horizontal directions unitl the quantized video signal is of adequate size. The quantized video signal thinned out to a proper thickness is further thinned out 4 either vertically or horizontally, or in two unopposed directions, so that the processing time can be shortened without causing a defect of the image. |
