The vehicle hull has buoyancy provided by a pontoon. In top view, the hull is rectangular, and has, at each carrier, a rectangular column (5) which is vertically slidable in guides (6). Each column, has at the bottom a V-shaped yoke (7) of which the arms are fixed by means of a hinge pin (8) to tracked feet. The base frame (10) which is also rectangular, is vertically slidable along the columns. It moves between a raised position adjacent the portion and a lowered position adjacent the drive tracks. Winches provide the vertical movement. Conical disc cutter head (22) enables a flat dredging action. From the cutter-head, suction pipe (25) lead to a submerged dredging ump (26), which may be hydraulic or electric.
