The salvage unit (1) comprises a pivotal bar (2) being provided at the outer end thereof with wheel supporting members (5) for a pair of wheels (7) of a car to be towed. The bar (2) is supported by one or more auxiliary wheels (9), and in the feed line (12) for a hydraulic cylinder (8) pivoting the bar (2) and keeping it in position, a hydraulic accumulator (11) is inserted. By means of the auxiliary wheel (9) an adequate, partial relief of the rear axle of the towing vehicle is achieved, and the hydraulic accumulator (11) causes the bar (2) to yield which permits the partial relief and spares the chassis of the towing vehicle and also the road surface. The towing unit serves to reduce the disadvantages of using a salvage vehicle with a relatively short chassis. <IMAGE> |
