PURPOSE:To absorb a sag of a ribbon during printing and prevent the ribbon from being caught at the time of setting a paper, by a construction of a printing mechanism wherein a ribbon is so fitted that it is gradually spaced away from a platen in the printing direction of a carriage. CONSTITUTION:The length (i) of a take-up projection 48 is set to be slightly larger than the length (h) of a let-out projection 46. Therefore, the ribbon 30 fitted along the platen 26 is gradually spaced away from the platen 26 in a rightward direction. The ribbon 30 thus fitted is inserted between a thermal head 54 and guide shafts 56, 58 while being guided by guide pieces 50, 52, and during printing, the head 54 is pressed against the platen 26, and the ribbon 30 is brought into contact with a paper 28. All of the head 54, the guide shafts 56, 58 and the guide pieces 50, 52 are provided on the carriage 60. |
