PURPOSE:To enable to greatly enlarge the printing range of a transfer printing material, by printing in monocolor on at least one of a leading end part and a trailing end part of the transfer printing material, in a thermal transfer type color printer. CONSTITUTION:When the leading end of a paper 3 reaches a pinch roller 6, printing in, e.g., black B is conducted in a predetermined leading end range l1+alpha, then rotation of a platen roller 5 is stopped, and a thermal head 8 is separated. Thereafter, the platen roller 5 is reversely rotated to reversely feed the paper 3 so that a part immediately following the leading end range comes to a printing point A, the head 8 is pressed against the platen roller 5, and the platen 5 is rotated, thereby printing in the first color, yellow. When the trailing end of the paper is detected by a detector 24, the rotation of the platen roller 5 is stopped, the paper is reversely fed by a predetermined amount, and the same operations as above are repeated to superimposingly print in magenta and cyan. Thereafter, the paper 3 is fed out, and the trailing end side is passed through the printing point A, whereby monocolor printing in black B is conducted in a trailing end range l2+alpha+l3. Accordingly, the printing range is enlarged. |
