A gas cleansing and heat transfer appliance, with a hood composition, is used in conjunction with cooking equipment to separate foreign bodies from gas which move through the hood construction and transfer heat from the gas to a fluid. The appliance displays a good number of gas cleaning units which, simultaneously operate to separate foreign bodies from the gas and reduce its temperature. Each cleaning unit has a heat-conducting wall which surrounds a pipe shaped channel for the gas and foreign bodies. A number of spiral shaped elements in the channel are arranged at an angle relative to each other, so that the gas which flows through the channel is split up in separate spiral shaped gas flows. A casing with a fluid chamber surrounds the cylinder wall. Heat from the gas in the channel is transferred through the wall to the fluid. The foreign bodies are separated from the gas as it makes its way in a spiral path through the channel via a combination of centrifugal force, adhesion, condensation and collision. The surrounding fluid cools off the gas within the wall's interior whereby vapours produced by the gas condense on the wall facilitating the collection of foreign bodies on the wall. Collected foreign material which flows along the wall is conveyed by the gas to circular collection element at the wall's outlet end. The cleaned gas flows through collection element and out of the appliance.<IMAGE> |
