摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a good starting characteristic of an engine and its good fuel consumption, by performing stratified combustion through a stratifying fuel supply means in a range when the engine is low loaded while decreasing an intake air amount so as to perform rich uniform combustion with fuel from a dispersing fuel supply means when the engine is started. CONSTITUTION:A control means 16, when it is started by a starting sensor 18, places a throttle valve 14 in its minimum opening position by a means 21 and supplies a predetermined quantity of dispersed fuel by a fuel supply means 13. Then the control means 16, if it proceeds into low and intermediate loaded ranges by a load detecting means 17, ceases supply of the dispersed fuel by the fuel supply means 13, fully opens the throttle valve 14 to hold an intake air amount to a fixed level and supplies stratified fuel around an ignition device 8 from a fuel supply means 11, performing stratified combustion in a lean state. Next, the control means 16, if it advances to a range above a preset load, starts the supply of the dispersed fuel from the fuel supply means 13 then decreases supply of the stratified fuel, performing the transfer from the stratified combustion to the uniform combustion. In this way, fuel consumption of an engine can be improved without worsening its starting characteristic.
