PURPOSE:To improve extremely efficiency of process using microorganism, by measuring an amount of microorganism of mold by image treatment, operating metabolism ability of the microorganism and factors having an influence on the metabolism ability by the use of the measured value. CONSTITUTION:In process using microorganism by utilizing metabolism ability of microorganism removing harmful substances, preparing useful substances, an amount of microorganism of mold is measured by image treatment. In the image treatment, only an image element corresponding to mold is extracted from the luminance distribution of observed image element when the microorganism was observed. An image element having a luminance of the observed image element between the upper set limit value and the lower limit set value is regarded as the image element corresponding to the mold. An image element having a luminance of the observed image element <= a given value or >= the given value is regarded as an image element corresponding to the mold. Metabolism ability of microorganism and factors having an influence of the metabolism ability are operated by the use of the measured value, improvement of process using microorganism and process maintenance control is attained.
