1496975 Moulding notched transmission belts UNIROYAL Inc 14 Oct 1975 [25 Nov 1974] 42002/75 Heading B5A Notched transmission belts are made by placing around a (preferably cylindrical) core 1 component layers 2-5 of a transmission belt including at least one layer of a curable elastomeric material, disposing around the core and the layers thereon an endless elstomeric sleeve 6 on whose inner surface longitudinal ribs are formed, and urging the sleeve against the layers on the core, under heat and pressure, to form a cured belt slab which, if necessary, may be cut to form a plurality of endless belts. The layers may be: 2, cotton duck or nylon fabric; 2a, neoprene cushion stock; 3, helically wound polyester, steel, rayon or fibreglass cord; 3a, neoprene cushion stock ; 3b, rayon tyre cord skim-coated with neoprene stock; 4, cotton fabric or flock-loaded neoprene rubber; and 5, nylon stretch fabric skim-coated with neoprene rubber. A vacuum is applied, Fig. 3 to hold the sleeve 6 in a stretched state while the layers are laid up and disposed within the sleeve; the vacuum is then released, and high-pressure steam supplied to force the sleeve against the layers and cure the belt. |
