PURPOSE:To reduce the load on a host computer by providing a format converter for data to plural input/output devices connected to the host computer, and performing conversion into respective formats of the terminals or host and storing the formats. CONSTITUTION:The host computer 1 sends out format information stored in a file 2 to respective input/output devices D1-Dn through a line 3. The input/output device Di converts an input format into its format and stores together with data, and displays it when necessary. When data is inputted by operating the keyboard 5, a format conversion part reconverts the format to obtain the format for the host computer and then sends the data to the host computer. Consequently, the host computer can use only one kind of form although the input/ output devices differ in format; the constitution of the host computer is simplified and the load on it is reduced.
