Method and apparatus for electrochemical cleaning of effluent

The method includes having an electrolyte flowing between soluble electrodes of an electrocoagulation chamber, the mixing, in the electrocoagulation chamber above the soluble electrode, of effluent with the electrolyte which flows upwards and contains products of the dissolution of the soluble electrodes, and the precipitation of foam and sludge formed in the process in a settling chamber. The liquid streams to be mixed are fed in at different temperatures, effluent being heated and electrolyte being cooled. The apparatus has a settling chamber (1) which is provided with an outflow port (6) for clear water and which is connected to an electrocoagulation chamber (2) arranged therein, in whose lower part an arrangement of soluble electrodes (3) is present and which is provided with an inflow port (4) for effluent and an inflow port (5) for electrolyte. The inflow port (4) for effluent is connected to a heater (7), and the inflow port (5) for electrolyte is connected to a cooler (8). The present invention can most expediently be employed in cleaning organically contaminated liquids such as oily and greasy effluents. <IMAGE>
