The exit or driven shaft (1) of a standard alternator and the vehicle motor drive shaft (3) are mechanically coupled and they are mounted on a regulatable chassis (5) so that they can be aligned. - The coupling is a muff (9) solid in rotation to the driven shaft and if need be to the drive shaft. The muff can slide between a work position in which it covers the ends (7,8) of each shaft and a rest position in which it only covers the end of the driven shaft, and there is a device that operates the to and fro motion of the muff.
