The tool (10), provided for clamping threaded shanks (12) provided with an external thread, has a shank holder (14) which can be inserted in a drive machine. At its end opposite the mounting end, the shank holder (14) is provided with a hollow bore (24) which, by longitudinal slots (26) made in it starting from its insertion aperture for the threaded shank (12) to be clamped, is subdivided into a number of clamping arms (28) which can be expanded elastically in the radial direction. In the area of the insertion aperture, the outer surfaces of the clamping arms are designed as a clamping surface (30) complementing one another to form an overall frustoconical surface, while on their inner surfaces opposite the clamping surface they have a mating thread (32) complementary to the thread of the threaded shank (12) to be clamped. By a clamping sleeve (16) which overlaps the area of the insertion aperture, is screwed onto an external thread of the shank holder (14) and has an inner frustoconical clamping surface complementary to the clamping surface (30) of the shank holder (14), the clamping arms (28) can be pressed together from their radially expanded insertion position, enabling the insertion of the threaded shank, into a clamping position brought radially closer and holding the inserted threaded shank. <IMAGE>
