A fixing apparatus for hanging up an article has a head-rail, into which the upper edge of the article can be introduced, and at least one fixing mechanism for holding the upper edge of the article in a suspended position, the fixing mechanism having a snap-action bolt which is movable transversely to the head-rail and has a bearing surface, is prestressed into an engagement position, and has a control surface which, when the article is introduced, can be pushed aside by the article and thus moves the snap-action bolt into a release position, so that it can slide over the article when the latter is introduced and can engage into a suspension hole or the like provided in the article, and the control surface having a first component which can be actuated by a substantially vertical movement introducing the article in the position of use of the apparatus, and a second component which can be actuated by a substantially horizontal movement of the introduced article in the position of use of the apparatus.
