<p>A method for filling an open top container with a foamable pasteurized liquid such as milk or fruit juice breaks down foam that is generated within the container so that the foam does not interfere with the sealing of the container. The container (14) is advanced by a conveyor to each of a plurality of filling stations (12a-12d) where the liquid is dispensed at a high flow rate into the container (14) in predetermined incremental amounts. The container (14) is then advanced to a defoaming station (120) where a fine spray of the same foamable pasteurized liquid is directed into the container to break down the foam. After the foam is broken sufficiently so as not to interfere with the sealing of the container (14), the container (14) is advanced to top sealing stations.</p> |
