Air passing into a petroleum tank is often contaminated with dust and moisture. The problem is to avoid such contamination, which is solved by the use of a breather cap containing a filter and desiccant to insure that the air passing into the tank is both clean and dry. The breather cap includes an elongated cylinder (10), in which air enters the bottom through apertures (22), passes through a knitted fabric filter (24) to remove dust particles, passes through a desiccant (25) along the entire height of cylinder (10) to remove moisture, passes through a second knitted fabric filter (26) to remove desiccant fines, and then passes into the opening of a standpipe (16) for passage downwardly along the axis of cylinder (10) into the tank. A window may be provided in the top of cylinder (10) to view the desiccant's condition or the body of cylinder (10) may be made transparent. A number of reduced strength areas (40) may be provided at the bottom of cylinder (10) to provide variable sized inlet apertures.
|
