The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the recovery of biogas by anaerobic fermentation of fresh liquid manure in an anaerobic treatment chamber with quantities of heat supplied, the resulting biogas being discharged therefrom. The object of the invention is to create a process and an apparatus of the type mentioned in the introduction by which, with relatively low investment costs, the treatment chamber required for the anaerobic fermentation of fresh liquid manure can be economically heated at least to the mesophyllic temperature range of 33 DEG C without significant expenditure of energy and at the same time the fermented liquid manure is freed from noxious odour emission. This object is essentially achieved according to the invention in that the quantities of heat required for the anaerobic fermentation are obtained by aerobic treatment of liquid manure in a treatment chamber open to the atmosphere which is subjected to a regulatable air stream, and are continuously transferred to the anaerobic treatment chamber. <IMAGE>
