A process for the purification of urokinase by treating a solution containing crude urokinase with a strongly acidic cation-exchange resin that contains sulphonic acid groups and has been converted into the NH4(+) form. The urokinase is adsorbed on this cation-exchange resin and is then eluted from it. Before this step, however, urea is added to the crude urokinase-containing solution in such an amount that the final urea concentration of the solution is 3-8 M. This gives a purified urokinase with an essentially constant and high specific activity, using a crude urokinase-containing starting solution, and the yield is high, irrespective of the purity of the crude urokinase solution employed. |
