The invention relates to a process for producing synthesis gas by partial oxidation of particles containing carbon suspended in water at high temperatures and elevated pressure. By means of a centrosymmetrical arrangement of a baffle body into the path of the material streams, these are widened in accordance with the shape of the baffle body. This has the result that the combustion proceeds in an advantageous manner.
