PURPOSE:To eliminate the control disabling period by operating so that the peak value of an output voltage and the peak value of an input voltage have the prescribed relation when a cycloconverter is operated in such a manner that the output frequency is higher than the input frequency. CONSTITUTION:A cycloconverter body CC-U has a positive group converters SSP and negative group converters SSN. The rotating speed of a motor is controlled on the basis of the outputs of a position detector PS for detecting the rotary position of a synchronous motor and a speed setter VRN. A current controller CONT-U controls an armature current in response to a speed control signal. When the cycloconverter CC-U is operated in such a manner that the output frequency f0 is higher than the input frequency fi, it is operated so that the peak value Vom of the output voltage becomes Vom<Vim(fi/f0) with respect to the peak value Vim of the input voltage. |
